A 92-year-old woman died after a car she rode in was involved in a crash with a semitrailer truck Friday afternoon in Riverside, police from the western suburb said this morning.

About 1:30 p.m. Friday, Riverside police responded to a crash at First and Forest avenues for a report of a traffic crash with injuries. Upon their arrival, police said, they saw a 2001 Chevrolet Impala sitting in the intersection with heavy passenger-side damage and the semi in a wooded area off First Avenue.

All the occupants in the two vehicles were taken to Loyola University Hospital in Maywood for their injuries. All had been wearing seat belts.

A passenger in the Impala, Vlasta Alfirevic, 92, of the 2300 block of South Third Avenue in Riverside, was pronounced dead at 5:47 p.m. at Loyola, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Although the crash remains under investigation, preliminary reports indicate the Impala made a left turn in front of the semi without yielding, police said. Further details weren't available.
