7-year-old shot in foot in Austin

A 7-year-old boy was recovering this evening after being shot in the Austin neighborhood, authorities said.

The boy was walking with his parents in the 400 block of South Laramie Avenue this afternoon when shots rang out and his father noticed the boy was bleeding from his foot, police said.

A stray bullet shot from an unknown location nearby apparently hit the boy, said Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.

The boy was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford; police said, however, that the boy was being treated this evening at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Grand Central Area detectives were investigating, but declined to comment.
