When Al Suomi watches the Blackhawk stars fly around the rink at breakneck speed, he sees flashes of his younger self out there on the ice. "Reminds me of when I was playing hockey," the 96-year-old great-grandpa said from a cushy recliner in his La Grange Highlands home. "I was a fast skater. I could skate 45 miles per hour." That was back in 1936, when a young, fit Suomi played left winger for the Hawks.
