Natasha McShane, one of two women beaten with a baseball bat in Bucktown last month, has been transferred from Northwestern Memorial Hospital to the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, according to Northwestern.
Stacy Starl Jurich, 24, the other woman injured in the attack, has been released from Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and is going through rehabilitation.
McShane, 23, of Northern Ireland, and Jurich were walking home April 23 after a night at Cans Bar and Canteen, 1640 N. Damen Ave., when they were attacked by a man wielding a baseball bat who also stole their purses.
Two people have been charged and are in due in court Monday.
McShane's grandmother, Bernadette McShane, said her granddaughter's condition has improved, but she still can't walk or talk or recognize her parents.
"I would say she's better than that," Bernadette McShane said her from her home in Northern Ireland when asked if she thinks her granddaughter is touch and go.
Nearly a dozen bars in Bucktown and Wicker Park are planning a pub crawl May 23 to raise money for Jurich and McShane. Tickets can be bought at Blueline Lounge and Grill, 1548 N. Damen Ave., general manager David Azizinamini said.
A benefit for McShane is set for June 4 at the Local 399 Operating Engineers event hall, 2260 S. Grove St., Chicago. Visit helpnatasha.net for more information.
