Burying the hatchet with friends and/or family who root against the Sox

I have an acquaintance who is a die-hard Twinn fan who has fallen on some hard times - leg injury preventing him from running, losing his job, no discernable intimate relationship (hey, karma is a bitch).  He's a nice enough guy, but I don't need someone around cloaked in failure AND a Twinn acolyte.  He's been telling me for weeks he has a "present" for me and I'll either "lose all respect" for him or thank him.  Whatever. Yesterday he bestows upon me a Sox hat.  Not even one from this era, but the lettering from the '80's (I will wear it 5/21).

What the hell do you do when someone who roots for the hated (insert team here) and gives you something Sox-oriented?  How do you respond?  And have you ever given a "peace offering" to a hated (insert team here) fan?  And I don't mean a team that "oh, I'll root for them as long as they are not playing the Sox" bullshit, I mean a team that you cannot stand.  Feel free to elucidate.

(Buehrle Man, you are a partial inspiration for this, what with your opening the Pandora's box of hate with your focus on the playa's.)
