Aurora Police are investigating three incidents of residents waking up to strangers walking into their homes on Aurora's far east side.
On July 16th at about 5 a.m. a woman who living in an apartment complex in the 2700 block of Amli Lane, reported to police that she awoke from sleeping on her couch to find a man standing over her, Aurora police said in a press release.
In all of the cases nothing was reported stolen from the homes, police said. After she asked the man what he was doing in her home, he left on foot, police said.
OnJune 29th a man and woman on the 1000 block of Fox Valley Drive awoketo a similar occurrence. A man was standing in their hallway, peeringinto their bedroom while they slept. Once the woman awoke she startledthe man who then ran from the home, police said.
Both victimswere unsure if they had locked their doors before going to bed. In thesecond incident it is possible the intruder gained entry though agarage door that had been left open, police said.
"It's notonly alarming that offenders are going into houses, it's just asalarming that the homes are unsecured," said Dan Ferrelli, an Aurorapolice spokesman.
A third incident in the apartment complex onAmli Lane was also reported to police as having occurred late June. Noother details were available about that incident.
The suspect in the first case was described as 5 feet 7inches talland weighing 170 pounds of an indeterminate race. The man in the secondcase is described as Caucasian, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing150 pounds. No description was available in the third case.
"People need to take responsibility for their own safety bysecuring their property and taking the opportunity away fromoffenders," Ferrelli said.
